Abstract

The work was carried out to evaluate ten varieties of Cuban corns (P-7928, UST-6, C-29, C-15, Palenque, FR-28, Tuzón, Spectral, Francisco and HT-311). The hectolitre mass of the varieties P-7928, UST-6, FR-28, Tuzón, Spectral, Francisco and HT-311 were significantly superior. The mass of 1000 grains were superior in UST-6, Tuzón, Spectral and Francisco. The hardness of the grains did not have significant differences among varieties and all the grains were hard. There were no significant differences in the yield of whole-wheat meal between varieties, but Francis and Spectral produced more purified flour than the others. The percentages of endosperm of the corn grains were significantly superior in the varieties P-7928, C-29, Spectral and Francisco. The varieties Tuzón and Francisco had the highest germ contain, while than C-15, Pa- lenque and FR-28 had significant higher values of seed hull and root cap. It was found a highly significant correlation among agricultural yield and the morphologic variables of the corn grains: length (R2= 0.98), width (R2=0.96) and height (R2=0.95).
