Comparison between likert-type and hedonic scales for evaluating the acceptance of energy bars
Keywords:
hedonic scale, Likert scale, energy barsAbstract
In the work, the hedonic scale and the Likert-type scale are compared to know the acceptance of energy bars with different binding agents. A total of 117 consumers participated in the study. The results were processed graphically and, in the case of the hedonic scale, by comparing the medians. The two methods were useful to evaluate the level of acceptance of different energy bar formulations. Both are simple and very easy to use by untrained people. The 7-point hedonic scale provided the consumer with a broader range to evaluate than the 5-point scale and the Likert scale allowed the evaluation not only of sensory attributes but also of consumption habits, opinion on the moment of consumption, the packaging, health properties and purchase intention, which is useful for some studies.
